It was about two years ago that I first saw a tiny house. I was sitting at my desk dreaming about more adventurous ways I could be spending my limited youth when I came across a photo of a tough looking dude with a big beard. He was standing on the road in front of his house... his tiny house on wheels.
My heart leaped. Maybe it was the smug “I am doin' things right” kind of look on the guys face, or maybe the aesthetic glory of the structure itself, but most likely it was the astonishing promise of freedom and adventure that appealed to my restless inner pirate.
The idea of breaking free of the mortgage=being poor until you die epidemic as well as having less of an impact on the environment and having more freedom rooted itself deep into the “things you should be doing with your life” category of my brain.
I showed the image to my boyfriend who I thought might brush it off as another crazy thing I was interested in but would probably never pursue, but he was also deeply enticed by the lure of what tiny living could mean for us.
Two years of conversations and growing momentum later we have decided to take the plunge and build our own little house of dreams on wheels.
This site will be used to provide updates on our progress and to share what we have learned each step of the way. Since we are both complete novices we hope to inspire others with what we accomplish and to offer insight into the ultimate DIY project as performed by people who have no idea what they are doing. If we can do it, you can do it!
