I am going to take a step back and talk a little bit about our house wrap experience. When we were ready to house wrap we were excited to get it done as quickly as we could. We had an amazing weekend with help from friends and took advantage of the extra hands to get the house all wrapped up. Thank you Jen, Olivia, Keely, and Colin for helping us stain mounds of cedar siding and battle Tyvek!
We used Tyvek which was fairly easy to work with (if you can imagine wrapping the largest, most awkward gift ever, you have an idea). It took some patience, but didn’t take too long. We were so happy to have it completed so that we could start on our siding! |
My advice to others would be to not get too excited about finishing your house wrap, but instead do it in sections. The Tyvek only lasts about 60 days out in the sun before it starts to lose it’s integrity. Having the whole house wrapped at once gave us unnecessary pressure to get our siding done as quickly as possible. We had to install the windows, make custom window trim, stain a ton of cedar bevel, and deal with a cedar shake fiasco (more on that later) before the Tyvek would be covered. We ended up panicking to get the project finished in a race against the sun and the impending deterioration of our delicate Tyvek!
